RRA stands for Route Risk Assessment. It includes documenting the identified risk factors and corresponding mitigating measures on particular routes which could then be applied to create a route management process.

The RRA could be used as an appropriate tool not only to minimize the risks involved in journeys but also to optimize the fleet operations by reviewing the appropriateness of a particular route or rescheduling of the trips.

Purpose:

It can be applied to all heavy & light vehicles, road journeys undertaken in any transport operations on public roads in high-risk geographies.

Areas identified as high risk, can be managed to ensure that action is taken to mitigate the risks.

Methodology:

As per latitude and longitude of each kilometer, local hazards and risks are identified and risk reduction measures to minimize exposure are suggested.

All known hazards like steep gradients, narrow bridges, poor road surfaces, dangerous intersections etc. are listed and mapped as per Low, Medium, and High Risk category and a mitigation plan is suggested, this could also include emergency help line services, such as police, ambulance and crane services.

Logistics / Transport Managers can do Route planning and scheduling to avoid hazards, unsuitable roads and congested areas as far as practical. Route Hazard Maps can be supplied to each driver for every route.

Factors Considered in RRA:

Road Condition; Road Shoulder; Journey Start Timing and Duration; Terrain; Climate; Visibility; Security on the Route; Traffic Density; Animal Control; Population Density; Accident Frequency; Environment; Communication Network and Emergency Support.

Reports:

  • Route Risk Analysis Chart (Hazard & Black Spot Map Summary)
  • Km-wise Risk Classification along with Road Condition & Traffic Situation (Includes Pictures with Lat/Long Positions)
  • Training Chart with pictorial description
  • Booklet with details on en-route Amenities
  • Emergency Services
  • Location Parameters viz. Driving Restrictions, Speed Limits etc.
